About the role
Polysomnographic Technologist opportunities with four days off per week. Schedules may include Sun–Tue or Wed–Fri. Positions are primarily in Boise; some shifts may be available in Nampa.
Polysomnographic Technologist I
Performs basic polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an Accredited Sleep Technologist S.T.A.R. program through the AASM, or hold RRT or RPSGT credential
- Registry in Polysomnography, Respiratory Care, or EEG required within 3 years of hire
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross at time of hire
- Certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) preferred
Polysomnographic Technologist II
Performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and/or the Medical Director or designee.
Requirements
- License to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine or a permit to perform polysomnography related to respiratory care
- Enrolled in, or have completed, the ASTEP program and register as an RPSGT within 1 year of hire by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- Certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- Minimum two years of direct clinical experience preferred
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross at time of hire
- Training in electroneurodiagnostics, pulmonary technology, or respiratory care with emphasis on cardiorespiratory, neurological, and sleep/wake physiology preferred
Responsibilities
- Know, understand, and incorporate the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values into daily practices and decisions
- Follow procedural protocols (e.g., Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure accurate data collection
- Ensure revenue management by accurately documenting services and supplies provided to patients
- Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates)
- Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free; identify and report signal abnormalities and make adjustments as necessary
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of results
- Implement appropriate interventions (e.g., continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration) for patient safety and therapeutic needs
- Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g., repeat physiological and instrument calibrations, instruct patients on completing questionnaires)
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions
- Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines
- Score clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) according to center-specific protocols
- Input orders and task information (e.g., account activation, notifications, task completion) in the PowerChart system
