Political Science Instructor, Part-time Adjunct Pool, Inmate Education Program Opportunity

Salary: $67.00 hourly

About the Role

Kern Community College District is soliciting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors. This assignment may include using multiple teaching methodologies and teaching at various campus sites, including day, evening, or weekend classes; large classes; distance learning classes; and classes for incarcerated students.

• Participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department
• Maintaining subject matter currency
• Developing and revising curriculum
• Using computer and multimedia technology
• Collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in a full range of Political Science courses
• Assess student learning outcomes
• Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Maintain subject matter currency
• Explore and integrate new technologies that benefit the program
• Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission

Requirements

• Master's in Political Science, Government, or International Relations; OR
• Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in Economics, History, Public Administration, Social Science, Sociology, any ethnic studies, JD, or LL.B.; OR
• Possession of a valid credential authorizing full-time teaching of Political Science at the California Community College level; OR
• Equivalent combination of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field (requires submission of an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents)

Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC. (ACEI).

A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
