Police Support Technician - DCI
Salary: $25.00 - $30.34 per hour, commensurate with experience.
About the role
The Police Support Technician performs detailed, responsible work maintaining accurate records in both paper and electronic formats. This is a 24/7 position requiring rotating days off and holiday work. The role involves creating, entering, and coding accurate information into various computer databases, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the State of North Carolina’s Department of Criminal Information (DCI) system.
Responsibilities
- Accurately create, enter, and code information into multiple computer databases, including NCIC and DCI.
- Input data such as file numbers, new or updated records, and documentation codes to support accurate information retrieval and reporting.
- Perform general administrative and office duties to support departmental operations.
- Sort, organize, and classify information according to established guidelines and procedures.
- Respond to inquiries regarding records, files, and database information.
- Maintain detailed logs of materials filed or removed using both manual and computerized systems; generate reports as required.
- Retrieve, copy, and deliver information from files in response to authorized requests.
- File materials in proper storage locations according to classification and identification standards.
- Remove or dispose of outdated, unnecessary, or inactive records in compliance with file maintenance and legal retention requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections of records and files to ensure correct placement, legibility, and condition.
- Exhibit a professional, customer service–oriented demeanor in all interactions.
- Review and prepare correspondence for accuracy, formatting, and completeness prior to final submission.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent with one (1) year of related experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an indoor office environment with:

Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks for final candidates, including reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, credit history check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks comply with federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test and/or participate in other assessments.
