About the role

The City of Richmond Police Department is accepting applications for Police Officer - Retiree Part time. The role is an exciting opportunity to join a committed team dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Approve and perform patrol services including regular patrol, ECO/TDO/Prisoner Watch, and precinct walking assignments.
• Must complete the DROP program if still employed with RPD before being eligible.
• Must be separated from the department for at least one pay cycle and can apply after 30 days.
• WEEKLY HOURS PERMITTED—29-32. Overtime should be avoided; removal from the program occurs if working a full time schedule.
• Monthly retirement/pensions benefits continue upon rehire.
• Eligible for medical and dental benefits and the Deferred Compensation 457 Plan upon rehire.
• Earn vacation and sick time on a pro-rata basis based on hours worked.

Requirements

• Retired from RPDRetirement must have been in the last 5 years or still hold a current DCJS certification.
• If still employed with RPD, must complete the DROP program before eligible.
• Must be separated from the department for at least one pay cycle and can apply after 30 days.
• Must work over 29 hours a week or can be removed from the program.
• Must complete Reentry or a modified Basic Training Class with the Training Academy prior to assignment.
• Qualifications, special certifications, and licenses required for rehired employees.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

• Complete Reentry or a modified Basic Training Class with the Training Academy prior to assignment.
• 40 HOURS OF In-Service, 4 weeks of Field Training, and any relevant or missing re-entry training.

Skills

Successful completion of an interview, thorough background investigation, to include a polygraph exam, physical and drug/alcohol screening, is required. An applicant disqualified from the Police background process may reapply a year after disqualification.

Physical and Dexterity Requirements

• Requires medium to heavy work involving walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects.
• Involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Environmental Hazards

• Risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, heights, disease/pathogens, explosives, and violence.

Sensory Requirements

• Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
