About the role
The City of El Cajon is seeking motivated individuals to join their Police Department as a Police Recruit. The position involves responding to various calls for service, building partnerships, and practicing community-oriented policing.
Responsibilities
- Respond to an array of calls for service
- Build partnerships and practice community-oriented policing
- Work in multiple divisions including Patrol, US Marshal Fugitive Task Force, Traffic, Crisis Negotiation Team, Investigations, and K9 Unit
- Support special assignments with the DEA Narcotics Task Force and FBI Safe Streets Task Force
- Provide all necessary equipment to new recruits
Requirements
- Valid California Class C Driver's License with a safe driving record
- T-Score of 42.0 or higher on the POST PELLETB exam taken within 6 months of the PAT test date (on or after January 25, 2026)
- High school diploma, GED Certificate, or California High School Proficiency Certificate
- Associate's Degree or higher to be exempt from the POST PELLETB exam

Additional Information
All candidates are required to undergo a psychological examination and pre-employment medical examination in addition to the aforementioned steps. For more detailed information, please refer to City Council Policy A-29.
Required Question
I acknowledge that the PAT and PELLETB is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026 and that I must undergo a polygraph examination, fingerprinting (DOJ/FBI), and thorough background investigation conducted by the Police Department prior to my appointment.
