About the role

Positions assigned to this class provide quality services to the citizens of Apache Junction which includes the protection and preservation of life and property and the maintenance of an environment where people feel safe from crime and disorder; investigate crime and perform crime prevention work; enforce Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Support City policies, goals and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• U.S. citizen
• At least 21 years old by the time of graduation from an Arizona police academy, OR currently enrolled in or graduated from an Arizona police academy within six (6) months of application and obtain AZPOST certification as a Peace Officer within thirty (30) days of appointment
• Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) certification (or ability to achieve within six months of appointment)
• Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator (ACJIS) certification within four (4) months of appointment

Skills

• Basic functions of a public safety operation
• Geography of the City and the location of buildings
• Learning police methods and procedures including patrol, crime prevention, traffic control, investigations and identification techniques

Requirements

• Fingerprinting (if 18 or older)
• Successful background investigation
• Employment verification
• Drug/alcohol test
• Medical evaluation
• Polygraph and/or psychological evaluation
• Valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona (or meet transportation needs)
• Physical demands: walking, running, climbing, sitting, driving; full range of motion with lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds; exerting force between 20 and 50 pounds
• Possible exposure to hazardous, uncontrollable, life‑threatening situations; contact with hostile or resistant individuals
