The Town of Farmville is seeking motivated candidates for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Responsibilities include routine patrol, preliminary investigation of miscellaneous rules, regulations and policies, responding to radio dispatches and answering calls and complaints, issuing citations, warnings or making arrests for traffic violations, serving warrants, making arrests, testing in court, providing police escorts, directing traffic, performing residential and commercial checks, conducting initial investigations and securing evidence, inspecting vehicles and notifying garages of defective patrol units, participating in a variety of in-service training programs, and performing related tasks as required.

• Operate a patrol vehicle or walk to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order.
• Enforce the laws and ordinances of the Town, Commonwealth and other pertinent laws.
• Respond to radio dispatches and answer calls and complaints.
• Issue citations, warnings or make arrests for traffic violations.
• Serve warrants, make arrests, and testify in court.
• Provide police escorts, direct traffic, and perform residential and commercial checks.
• Fill out arrest records, fingerprints, photographs, etc.
• Prepare and update conditions existing in street or other public facilities.
• Transport prisoners to prison facilities.
• Conduct initial investigations and secure evidence.
• Inspect vehicles and notify garage of defective patrol units.
• Participate in a variety of in-service training programs.
• May be assigned to crime prevention, special duty, special operations.

The incumbent must be able to work flexible hours, including night shift.

Pay

A competitive salary will be offered based on experience and qualifications. Starting salary is $52,637.40. In addition to a competitive salary, the Town of Farmville offers an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, VRS retirement (including Hazardous Duty Supplement), short-term disability insurance, paid time off, and other supplemental benefit options.

Schedule

The Town provides uniforms and equipment. A take-home car program is available.

Training

You are required to attend a 6 month long training academy and attendance is a must! The next academy is set to begin January 2027.
