Police Officer PRN - Springfield Regional Medical Center
About the role
Mercy Health exists to enhance the health and well-being of all people in mind, body and spirit through exceptional patient care. The Police Officer provides internal and external safety/police functions to support the general safety of BSMH facilities.
Responsibilities
- Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and mitigating environment of care safety hazards.
- Deters criminal activity through routine patrols of all hospital property to include all parking lots and decks.
- Enforces policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, and tobacco free/smoking policy.
- Maintains strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement.
- Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require protective services involvement.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
- Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Certification (required within 6 months of hire)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Associate's degree (preferred)
Skills & Abilities
- Basic Skills using Microsoft Word.
- Proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints), in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
- Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution.
