About the role

The Village of Glenwood Police Department is seeking lateral-hire full-time Police Officers for immediate and future openings. The department is committed to a professional, community-oriented approach and is equipped to handle various emergency situations. Officers have opportunities to participate in specialized units and regional task forces.

  • South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force
  • Mobile Field Force
  • Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team
  • Regional and in-house Tactical Unit participation
  • Full-Time Investigation Division
  • Bike Patrol
  • Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (grant-funded overtime details)

The department serves a population of 9,800 with 25 sworn officers and actively engages with the community through programs such as:

  • Monthly “Lunch with the Law” at local schools
  • Spring and Fall “Cops and Bobbers” youth fishing program
  • Annual National Night Out Against Crime
  • Christmas “Shop with a Cop” event
  • Monthly community engagement meetings with homeowner associations
  • Numerous other community events

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident legally authorized to work in the U.S. and possess a firearm
  • At least two (2) years of full-time law enforcement experience
  • In good standing with ILETSB and current/former departments
  • Certificate of completion for the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (or equivalent with ILETSB waiver)
  • Out-of-state officers must complete the two-week online “Law for Police” course, four-hour “Mandatory Firearms Training” course, range qualifications, and pass the IL State equivalency exam
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Statement
  • No felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or misdemeanors listed in Section 10-2.1-6 of the Act (65 ILCS 5/10-2.16)
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes
  • Pass psychological, polygraph, and medical examinations

Pay

Pay range based on years of service:

  • $81,331.14 – $99,457.87 (as of May 1, 2026)
  • Officers top out at $104,430.76 after 6 years of full-time law enforcement experience
