About the role
The Mill Creek Police Department (MCPD) is a full-service police department serving a population of approximately 21,000. The department consists of 23 commissioned Police Officers, 1 Limited Commission Police Support Officer, and 4 Support Staff. Officers have opportunities to participate in various specialized units and teams, including the regional SWAT team, K9 Unit, School Resource Officer, Traffic Officer, Corporal program, and more.
Responsibilities
- Patrol residential and commercial areas to detect criminal activity and prevent crime.
- Respond to requests for information and assistance, provide emergency aid, and enforce laws and regulations.
- Investigate criminal activity, collect evidence, and submit reports on cases under investigation.
- Provide general information to the public and assist in emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Develop and implement crime prevention programs and public awareness initiatives.
- Testify in court when necessary.
- Maintain effective interagency communications and serve in additional capacities as appointed.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must pass a stringent background investigation.
- Must meet physical and medical standards.
- Must meet one of the four Civil Service Rules criteria for Lateral Entry.
- Must have at least two years of law enforcement experience and a successful completion of the probationary period with the Mill Creek Police Department.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver's license and an insurable driving record.
- Must have current first aid certification or the ability to obtain within the first year of appointment.

- Case law pertaining to law enforcement.
- Modern law enforcement methods and techniques.
- Laws and practices governing arrest, search, and seizure activities.
- Techniques for identifying and preserving physical evidence.
- Use and care of firearms, motor vehicles, and other police-related equipment.
- Incident response and resource allocation techniques.
- First aid and CPR.
- Computer and software programs utilized by law enforcement.
- Geography of the City of Mill Creek and surrounding areas.

Schedule
Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with alternating weekends off (Pittman schedule).
