Qualifications
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
- Preferred to possess Utah P.O.S.T Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certification in good standing or be certifiable prior to date of employment.
- Must possess a valid Utah driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
- Preference may be given to applicants currently serving as Police Officers.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of community-oriented policing, patrol operations, criminal investigations, report writing, and safety standards related to the use of vehicles, firearms, and other police equipment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting wage for full-time officers with experience is $29.69/hour.
- Years of full-time law enforcement experience may be matched, up to 8 years, depending upon qualifications and certifications, at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
- Full insurance benefits are effective immediately.
- Opportunities for overtime are available.
- Benefits include city paid retirement (based on 2236 hours/year) in the URS system, city paid medical and dental insurance, sick-time accrual, long-term disability insurance, $100 per month uniform allowance, and 12 paid holidays per year (121 hours).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Generally work 7-12 hours shifts per pay period, totaling 86 hours every two weeks.
- Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching.
- Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing.
- Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem-solving.
- Frequent travel required in course of performing portions of job functions.
- Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard uncertainty common to law enforcement.
- Occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, police officers work in outside weather conditions.
- Police officers occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in precarious places, with firearms ammunition and explosives and are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, extreme cold, and vibration.
- Work rotating shifts, on weekends and on holidays.
