About the role

The City of Redmond is seeking exceptional entry-level police officers with less than 24 months of continuous service within the last four years. Applicants must have completed a basic law enforcement academy or have a peace officer certification equivalent to the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Preferred education or experience: Associate of Arts degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field; Completion of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited college or university; Two (2) years of military experience; Two (2) years as a full-time, sworn, law enforcement officer.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy certification within two years of submitting the application.
  • Military, corrections, federal and reserve officer training along with other training not approved by CJTC is not accepted.
  • Meet required physical and medical standards and all civil service requirements.
  • Possess a valid Washington State driver's license upon hire; out-of-state hires must have a valid driver's license and obtain a valid Washington State driver's license within Washington's required timelines.
  • Be at least 21 years of age when the eligibility list is certified.
  • United States citizenship or be a lawful permanent resident.
  • Successfully pass Redmond Police Department background investigation which includes a Chief's interview, polygraph, psychological, extensive on-site background investigation, drug screening, and medical exam.

Selection Process

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have completed Public Safety Testing’s Personal History Questionnaire requirements may advance to the next steps in the selection process. Automatic disqualifiers include being convicted of a felony, selling narcotics or dangerous drugs, having a pattern of abusing prescription medication, receiving more than two moving traffic violations within the preceding 3 years, or committing any serious violation of Federal, State, City or County laws.

Interview

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be invited to participate in the testing process which includes an oral interview, requiring a passing score of 70%. This is a continuous recruitment, and applications will be screened as openings occur. A City of Redmond application, veteran's preference form and college education statement must be completed. Those requesting "veteran's preference" must complete the appropriate form at the time of the oral interview and provide a copy of their DD214.

Reapplication

Applicants who fail one of the phases of the testing process are eligible to reapply for this position after six (6) months from the date of examination. Applicants who fail a component of the background process are eligible to reapply for this position after eighteen (18) months from the date removed from the eligibility list.
