Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as a Police Officer Trainee.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

• Must successfully complete the Entrance Level Police Training Course required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission during the probationary period.
• Must secure a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission during the probationary period.
• May be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.

Special Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must pass a satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history.
• Must pass an oral interview.
• Must undergo physical and psychological examinations, truth verification, and drug test.
• Must possess or obtain a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.
• Subject to call-in.
• May be required to bear firearms and demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in their safe use and care.
