About the role

The Maywood Police Department is a full-service police department with 40 sworn officers serving a population of 23,315, located 10 miles west of the City of Chicago and is seeking motivated, professional, and community-oriented individuals to join our team as Certified Part-Time Police Officers. Applicants must successfully complete a character background investigation, psychological, and medical examination, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, or be certified by another state where training and experience would qualify you to become certified.
• Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license.
• Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to read and write the English language effectively; and complete all phases of testing.
• Must reside within a 15‑mile radius of the Village of Maywood within 1 year of employment date.
• Must work a minimum of 24 hours in a two‑week period (maximum 1,000 hours annually).

Pay

• Starting salary: Under 5 years – $30.60/hour.
• Over 5 years – $32.78/hour (effective 5/1/2026).
