About the role

The Village of Ruidoso is seeking a Police Officer to patrol the village on an assigned shift. This position requires a Certified New Mexico Patrol Officer certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Checks for traffic hazards and illegal or unsafe activities.
  • Responds to calls for assistance, including traffic accidents, assaults, fights, alarms, domestic disturbances, thefts, and other criminal or civil complaints.
  • Works to strengthen police/community relations through foot or bike patrol.
  • Intervenes in disputes, apprehends suspects, makes arrests, issues citations, identifies witnesses, conducts investigations, collects evidence, assists injured persons, and re-establishes law and order at the scene.
  • Conducts follow-up investigations.
  • Preserves crime scenes.
  • Books arrested persons in accordance with state, federal, and departmental procedures.
  • Typifies complaints, affidavits, warrants, writes reports, processes evidence.
  • Presents cases and testifies in court.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator's permit.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a background check, including a drug screen.
  • Must not have any felony convictions.
  • Must not have any misdemeanor convictions within the last three years.
  • Must not have any DWI convictions within the last three years.
  • Must not have any convictions for aggravated assault, theft, or other crimes involving moral turpitude.
  • Must not have any convictions for violating any federal, state, or local ordinance relating to aggravated assault, theft, or other crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Must not have any convictions for perjury, filing a false report, impersonating an officer, or domestic violence.
  • Must not have any convictions for selling, manufacturing, or distributing any controlled substance as an adult.
  • Must not have any convictions for being discharged from the United States Armed Forces under Dishonorable conditions.
  • Must be free of any physical condition that might adversely affect his performance as a police officer.

Skills

  • Microsoft Office proficiency level: Intermediate or higher.
  • Advanced police training: 200 hours or more.
  • Instructor certifications: Active Shooter, EVOC, etc...
  • Proficiency level with using Sleuth, Lexis Nexis, and NCIC: Intermediate or higher.
