The Wilmington Police Department is seeking qualified individuals to join their team as an Entry-Level Police Officer. The department is proud to offer a competitive salary starting at $68,218.73 and is committed to providing a supportive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide law enforcement services to the community
- Investigate criminal activity and assist in the apprehension of suspects
- Respond to emergency calls and provide first responder assistance
- Maintain public safety and security
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or compliant with 55 ILCS 5/3-6033
- No felony convictions
- Possess a valid state-issued driver's license with good driving record
- Minimum of 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of application unless otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Possess a valid NIPSTA card – OR - equivalent criteria as per the State standard, issued within 12 months of the written exam date (September 11, 2026)
- Successfully pass a written examination with a minimum overall passing score of 70%
- Successfully complete an oral interview with the Board of Police Commission
- Successfully complete a background investigation, polygraph, and psychological testing
- Successfully complete a medical physical, to include drug and alcohol screening
Qualifications
- Completion of a sworn 22 (17 Full-Time; 5 Part-Time) population of 5,735
- Knowledge of local laws, ordinances, and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Physical fitness to perform the duties of a police officer
