POLICE OFFICER (ACADEMY GRADUATE/ACADEMY ENROLLED/LATERAL)
About the role
The National City Police Department seeks to hire a Lateral Officer to join our team. This position offers a Lateral Hire Bonus of $10,000 upon date of hire, successful completion of probation period, and two-year anniversary date.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas in radio car and on foot
- Answer special calls, including investigation of burglaries, robberies, deaths, suicides, thefts, felonies, and other law violations
- Conduct initial and follow-up investigations
- Direct traffic when appropriate
- Stop drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of the law
- Warn drivers against illegal practices
- Make arrests for traffic violations
- Testify in court in connection with the prosecution of offenders
- Serve warrants and subpoenas
- Administer first aid in emergency cases
- Answer complaints on such problems as domestic disturbances, obnoxious animals, and health code and local ordinance violations
- Investigate suspicious circumstances
- Take custody of lost and found property
- Perform crowd control and parade or riot work
- Take crime prevention measures and assist in controlling problems of juvenile delinquency
- Book prisoners into City jail and supervise their custody
- Provide information and directions to the public
- Submit complete written reports of all cases assigned
- Participate in training courses and programs
- Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies
- Gather and preserve evidence
- May relieve dispatchers, desk officers, and superiors in their absence
- May talk in front of local groups regarding crime prevention and law enforcement
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
- Successful completion within previous three (3) year period of Basic Police Academy which meets all the requirements of the California Commission on Police Standards & Training (POST)
- OREmployment within the last 12 months in position requiring California Basic POST Certificate
- License/Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment. Must meet all other California POST requirements
Qualifications
- Must possess education equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma or GED
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law
- Must possess a valid California C Driver's License
- Must be currently enrolled in a California POST Academy or have completed a California POST Academy within the last three (3) years
- Must have law enforcement (Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff) experience within the last 12 months
- Must have completed professional education and off-the-job training since receiving Basic POST Certificate
- Must not have been convicted of a crime(s) resulting in a sentence, suspended sentence, probation, or other resolution following a plea of guilty or no contest, a verdict, or other finding of guilt

Pay
