Police Officer 2-3(CPG)

About the role

The East Jefferson Levee District jurisdictional area falls under the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) and includes East Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard parishes on the East Bank. The incumbent performs commissioned law enforcement duties to prevent crime, protect life and property, and ensure the integrity of the levee system through armed, uniformed patrols. Supervision is provided by higher-ranking police officials.

In emergencies such as Mississippi River flooding or hurricane/tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty, remaining until released by the Appointing Authority.

Responsibilities

• Protects the integrity of the levee system via motorized vehicle and/or foot patrol.
• Works with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as necessary.
• Provides security for the public utilizing the levee system for recreational purposes.
• Routinely checks businesses and construction sites contiguous with the levee system to ensure proper permitting protocol is followed.
• Issues warning notices, citations, misdemeanor summons, and makes lawful arrests when necessary.
• Takes appropriate action to have any violations corrected.
• Operates on-board police laptop computer.
• Completes all applicable paperwork mandated by law and documentation essential to the mission of the levee district.
• Responds to manmade or natural disasters, which may be hazardous and require arduous physical activity under varied climatic conditions.

Requirements

• One year of law enforcement experience.
• Every 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university substitutes for one year of required experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
• Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
• Applicants convicted of a felony or under indictment on a felony charge are disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
• Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100 – Protective Services Exam (PSE) to be considered.

Pay

The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
