General Purpose of Position
This is specialized work in receiving and dispatching information in the Police Communications Division.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Deals tactfully and courteously with the public and city employees.
- Works rotating shifts, including weekends.
- Makes phone calls and radio transmissions, answering all incoming calls and gathering necessary information to transmit or relay.
- Dispatches police and other response vehicles for emergencies; broadcasts details of incidents; contacts relevant personnel and local concerns like the fire department.
- Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean and working order.
- Operates radios and assists in radio communications; operates base radio as required.
- Sends and receives computer messages; operates listed tools and equipment as required.
- Composes, types, and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgement as to content, accuracy, and completeness.
- Inputs data to standard office and department forms, both manual and automated; makes simple postings to various reports; compiles and tabulates data.
- Maintains dispatch documents and records for dissemination.
- Monitors individuals in holding cells for proper conduct, safety, and medical or other needs.
- Affords assistance in training new employees.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of application and a Missouri resident at time of appointment; Minimum age 18 and demonstrates maturity.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, and other related duties.
- Good moral character.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
