Police Detention Officer
for section headings. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Use
for prose.
We need to preserve all substantive info, remove boilerplate: cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning, duplicated lines, application instructions. Also remove the supplemental questions (01 AA etc). Also remove the "Applying in this recruitment does not preclude you..." maybe that's not boilerplate? It's about process; but could be considered application instruction? Might be okay to keep? The instruction says remove application instructions. That line is about applying not precluding etc. Might be considered instruction; safer to remove. Also remove the "Glendale is an Equal Opportunity Employer..." that's EEO boilerplate; remove. Also remove the benefit link? Actually benefit information is outlined here: link. That's not boilerplate; we keep Benefits section with link.
We need to include Pay section with salary info.
We need to include Benefits section with link.
We need to include About the role? Not present; we have About Our City, About Our Department, About Your Impact, Essential Functions, Minimum Qualifications..., Physical Requirements/Working Conditions.
We should maybe combine About Our City and About Our Department under "About the role"? But rule: use headings for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). It says use those as examples but we can use other headings? It says use
for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). Likely we should stick to those headings where applicable. So we need to map content to those headings.
We have:
- About the role: could include About Our City, About Our Department, About Your Impact? Might be too much. But we can create About the role section with prose summarizing those.
- Responsibilities: Essential Functions (list of duties). Use - .
- Requirements: Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors (list). Use
- .
- Qualifications: maybe same as Requirements? Could combine. But we need to avoid thin sections. Perhaps we put Requirements heading and include both qualifications and special requirements.
- Skills: maybe from Knowledge Of, Skill In, Ability To. Could be separate Skills section.
- Benefits: link.
- Pay: salary.
- Schedule: not present, omit.
We must not create sections with filler. So we need to ensure each heading has substantive content.
Let's extract content:
About Our City: Located on the west side of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Glendale is a vibrant and culturally diverse city of more than 255,000 residents. The community blends historic charm with modern growth and is a premier destination for sports, shopping, and entertainment - home to world-class venues, year-round events, and a thriving atmosphere that continues to evolve.
About Our Department: The Glendale Police Department proudly serves this dynamic community with a team of 467 sworn officers and 166 civilian professionals. Our agency operates across three bureaus and six divisions - Administrative Services, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Support Services, Gateway Patrol, and Foothills Patrol — working around the clock to keep Glendale safe.
About Your Impact: Books, maintains custody, transports, and releases prisoners. Works under the supervision of a Support Services Supervisor.
We could combine these into About the role section.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions): list of duties (many sentences). We need to break into list items. The essential functions paragraph is long with many duties separated by periods. We'll split each duty into
- .
Let's extract duties:

- Books, maintains custody, transports, and releases prisoners. Works under the supervision of a Support Services Supervisor. (duplicate of earlier; we can keep but maybe deduplicate; but we must preserve all substantive info; duplicate is okay but we could keep one.)
We'll include as list items.
Requirements (Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors): Let's list:
- One year of experience as a detention officer or equivalent combination of training and experience preferably in a public safety environment.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

- Federal, state and city laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to the custody of prisoners

We can format as list items; for knowledge/skill/ability we could embed as sublists? But spec says use
- for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Could nest lists? Probably okay but we can keep flat items with dash.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Requires occasional lifting of 50 to 100 pounds. Also maybe other conditions? That's it.
We could put Physical Requirements under Requirements or separate section? There's no heading for Physical Requirements in the examples; but we could include under Requirements or maybe under "Requirements". But we need to preserve info. Could add a section "Physical Requirements" but not in examples; but rule says use
for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). It says e.g., not exclusive. So we could add Physical Requirements heading if we want. But better to incorporate into Requirements or maybe under "Requirements". However the instruction: "Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones." So we could combine Physical Requirements into Requirements section.
Benefits: we have link: https://www.glendaleaz.gov/Your-Government/Connect/Departments/Human-Resources-Risk-Management/Benefits
We can include a

Pay: Annual Salary $51,919.14 - $77,878.84; Hourly Salary $24.96 - $37.44.
