Police Crisis Intervention Specialist

Essential Functions

• Responds, in person and by telephone, to police officer requests for psychological, sociological, and victim services.
• Performs intervention and assessment services in areas such as: domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health emergencies, child maltreatment, and runaways.
• Works in a variety of stressful and emotional situations on a 24-hour basis.
• Relocates victims of domestic violence or other life altering situations.
• Responds to private citizens, schools, and social service agencies requests for assistance.
• Refers and occasionally provides transportation to local treatment and other appropriate locations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• Work in a variety of stressful and emotional situations on a 24-hour basis.
• Respond to Scottsdale jail facilities, private residences, businesses, city streets, schools, etc.
• Occasionally provide transportation to local treatment and other appropriate locations.
• Exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Lift and assist infirmed individuals and children.
• Operate a City vehicle and radio equipment when responding to situations.
• Carry and respond to cell phone; provide on call service; respond on a 24-hour basis to emergency situations.

Selection Process

• Education Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process that may include a panel interview.
• Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening that may include: Fingerprinting search of the national FBI Database, Criminal Background Screening, 36-Month Motor Vehicle Department Records Check, Drug Screening, Psychological Testing.
• The timeframe for reapplication with the Police Department varies based on the position and the needs of the organization.

Required Questions

• Do you have three years of professional experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or social work?
• This division has a Crisis Response Canine to aid in the care and comfort of clients who have experienced traumatic events. The canine has an assigned handler; however, you will be working in close proximity with the canine, including in the office and on-scene. Do you foresee any problems with this situation?
• This position requires a flexible schedule, including 4/10 or 5/8 shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., participation in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation, working overtime as needed, and the ability to respond immediately to call-outs from home while on call.
