Basic Responsibilities
- Assist citizens at the Command Desk by answering phones and taking reports both in person and over the phone.
- Prisoner care.
- Prisoner processing.
- Maintain department equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and operational capabilities of the police facility and grounds.
- Lift, and move objects up to 50 lbs.
- Participate in self-defense training.
- Willing to perform all other tasks as assigned.
Criminal Justice Course Work
Prior work experience: None required. Preference may be given to those applicants who have law enforcement experience and/or backgrounds in law enforcement or a criminal justice environment.
Pre-employment Standards
- Not less than 18 years of age.
- Citizen of the United States.
- Possess a high school diploma.
- Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Have no more than two hazardous traffic violations in the preceding five years, or a total of no more than four points on or after the date of application.
- Have no prior felony convictions.
- Have no misdemeanor charges or convictions within five years of the date of application.
- All misdemeanor charges and convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility of the applicant.
- Pass a psychological examination administered at the direction of the department.
- Pass all phases of a physical-medical examination, conducted by a licensed health care professional of the department’s choosing.
- Pass a drug test, checking for the presence of illicit controlled substances.
- Pass the department’s Oral Review Board.
- Possess good moral character, as determined by a background investigation.
- Possess a background investigation.
- Possess a fingerprint check.
Special Skills & Training
Must meet applicable Michigan Commission On Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) requirements related to vision & hearing at the time of hire.
Work Schedule
- Work hours will be 24 to 40 hours per week.
- Must be willing to work various shifts on a 7 day a week, 24 hour per day basis, including holidays.
- Overtime may be required to maintain minimum staffing hours.
Pay
Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour, with the opportunity to receive tuition reimbursement up to $3,500 per year towards an Associate Degree. Police Academy sponsorship based on merit.
