Examples Of Duties, Responsibilities And Expectations
- Typing and operating computer equipment
- Filing
- Answering telephones and providing assistance at the front counter or desk position
- Assisting in the maintenance of the Police facilities and vehicles
- Processing Livescan fingerprint applications
- Directing traffic
- Assisting the department as needed
- Performing other required duties as assigned by supervisors or department personnel
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful Cadet candidates should possess the skills, knowledge, and/or abilities to:
- Work effectively with the public
- Work irregular hours, including holidays and weekends
- Read, speak, write and understand the English language
- Write reports
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Satisfactorily complete security background investigations
- Meet physical employment standards for this classification
- Perform other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications To Apply
- 18 years of age at the time of appointment
- Possession of a valid California Driver License
- Current enrollment in a two-year college or four-year university, with a minimum of twelve (12) semester units and a GPA of 2.0 or better
- Police Cadets that have completed 120 or more college units, or have obtained their desired degree / certification, would be required to complete a minimum of 9 units each semester with a 2.0 GPA or better to remain in the program
- Police Cadets who are being actively recruited or are in the processing stages of hiring for a law enforcement career may also remain in the Police Cadet program
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
- The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview.
- All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process.
- The pre-employment process may include but not be limited to: Reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint-based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post-offer medical examination and drug test.
- Candidates must fill out the employment application and supplemental questions completely and accurately.
- Required fields and supplemental questions are noted with an asterisk (*).
- All other fields are optional.
- Applications including references to "see resume" are considered incomplete and will be disqualified.

Part-time Employees
- Part-time employees are not eligible for City health and retirement benefits.
- Part-time employees receive paid sick leave in accordance with California state law.

- All part-time and seasonal employees pay in to Social Security and Medicare (7.65%).
- City employees do not pay in to California State Disability (SDI).
