Police Cadet - Non-Certified Recruit

General Purpose

The Pinecrest Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Cadet.

The Village of Pinecrest is ranked among the safest cities in Florida because of low crime rates. This has been made possible by the fine work of our police force who are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service to our residents, businesses and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Candidates hired as Police Cadets are sponsored to the police academy.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess one of the following: a two-year college degree (Associate in Arts or Associate in Science); or have successfully obtained a minimum of sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university recognized by the US Department of Education;
• Three (3) years of prior full-time continuous military service;
• A high school diploma.

Additional Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
• Good eyesight, including depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors.
• Fluency in the English language. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
• Flexibility with work assignments, days-off and duty hours.
• Maintain high ethical, honesty and moral standards.
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Pass a physical ability test for admittance to the police academy.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
• Ability to maintain a high level of organization.
• Ability to perform several tasks at one time.
• Ability to prioritize duties and meet department goals and deadlines.
• Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters and exercise discretion.
• Ability and responsibility to effectively work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
• Ability to get along with others and work effectively and courteously with fellow workers, officials, other agencies and the public.

Application Process & Documentation

• In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, non-certified applicants must also successfully obtain a passing score on the following examinations and include their scores with their employment application:
• Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) OR, Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT).
• Note: Sixty (60) college credits is not sufficient unless a degree was conferred.
• Note: Once a candidate is selected, additional testing will be required prior to entering the police academy.

• Applicants for the Police Cadet Non-Certified Officer position must also complete and mail or hand-deliver to the Human Resources Office, the Police Cadet Supplemental Package during regular office hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. no later than ten (10) business days following receipt of application.
