Poison Information Provider - Grant - Poison

Job Summary

The Poison Information Provider (PIP) under the direction of the Directors of the Poison Center is responsible for providing initial triage of calls, assisting Poison Information Specialists in managing home calls and follow-up calls for established patients, and assisting in managing poisoned patients, providing information to the public, and providing administrative support to department staff. The PIP will never be scheduled to work alone, and never in a ratio of greater than two to one, PIP to Specialist.

About the Role

The PIP is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the Florida Poison Information Center and Tampa General Hospital. High School graduate or GED and either a student in good standing in or graduate of an accredited health-science program (Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.) is required.

• Either a student in good standing in or graduate of an accredited health-science program (Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.)
• Must be able to use computer and office equipment
• Familiarity with databases
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Must be able to complete the Poison Center math examination within 3 months of hire
• Excellent phone and communication skills
• Comfort in seeking assistance from and/or transferring higher level calls to the Specialist when necessary or as determined by the Directors
• Detail oriented and able to synthesize and succinctly report an interview

Qualifications

Must have knowledge of medical terminology be able to complete the Poison Center math examination within 3 months of hire. Must be able to use computer and office equipment and a familiarity with databases. Must have excellent phone and communication skills and comfort in seeking assistance from and/or transferring higher level calls to the Specialist when necessary or as determined by the Directors.
