POINT OF CARE COORDINATOR, POINT OF CARE TESTING

About the Role

Supports and oversees Point of Care Testing (POCT) processes and promotes optimal patient outcomes. Develops, evaluates, and revises standards, policies, and procedures for point of care testing. Serves as a resource for Nursing Staff and other healthcare providers in the performance of POCT. Functions to optimize patient outcomes by providing full assessment and monitoring of POCT performance, resolving issues, and assessing and documenting POCT staff competency. Provides regular and impromptu education and consultation services in POCT. Reviews literature for trends in POCT and evaluates and develops new POCT procedures. Monitors current CLIA certifications for all outside entities of the organization that perform POC tests.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and revise standards and policies for POCT
• Serve as a resource for Nursing Staff and other healthcare providers
• Assess and monitor POCT performance and staff competency
• Provide education and consultation services in POCT
• Review literature for trends in POCT and evaluate new procedures
• Monitor CLIA certifications for all outside entities performing POC tests
• Formulate documents, policies, and procedures
• Analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues related to patient outcomes
• Plan and conduct educational programs for healthcare personnel
• Understand duties of non-lab personnel performing POC testing

Requirements

• Current MT certification or must obtain certification within 18 months of hire
• At least 2 years of laboratory experience, including bench work and leadership/teaching experience
• Flexibility in work schedule, assignments, workloads, and setting priorities
• Ability to analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues
• Excellent verbal, written, and behavioral communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with and assess learning needs of non-lab healthcare personnel
• Ability to plan and conduct educational programs
• Proficiency in using office, educational, clinical, and non-clinical equipment

Working Conditions

Works primarily in a hospital, laboratory, office, or classroom/meeting areas. The role requires:

• Primarily daytime hours with flexibility to meet educational needs
• Considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, and occasional lifting (in excess of 25 pounds)
• Mental effort to assess, plan, and make decisions in a complex environment
• Potential exposure to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases

Schedule

Full Time, 8-hour day shift (0800-1700).
