PNP-AC/PA - Pediatric Cardiac ICU

About the Role

This position works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for hospital medicine patients on the floors of the Medical Center. Under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician, you will work with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistant (PA): Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
• Work Experience:
  • Required: None.
  • Preferred: 3 years of related working experience.
• Certifications:
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP):
    • Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
    • Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC).
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association / PALS.
    • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Physician Assistant (PA):
    • License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
    • NCCPA Certified.
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association / PALS.
    • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners.

Skills

• Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role, and keyboard use.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department and campus/system levels.
• Reliable transportation for travel throughout and between facilities.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call availability).

• Utilizes approved medical practices in delivering patient care.

• Provides educational experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.

• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory requirements applicable to the assigned area.
• Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
• Other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
• Duties routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
• Works in patient care areas, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that may contain communicable diseases.
• Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal.
