Plumbing Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, installation and repair work on piped utility systems and fixtures and on the piping and connections of equipment.
  • Work in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes.
  • Work in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions.
  • Work within confined spaces and in awkward positions.
  • Work at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment.
  • Load/unload and transport/position tools, equipment and materials & push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Work with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease.
  • Identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.
  • Perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.
  • Safely use tools and equipment indicated herein.
  • Use all types of tools and equipment normally used in the plumbing trade, including specialized equipment such as power augers and pipe threaders, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of formal training in a state-approved Journey Plumber program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of plumbing techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
