Plumbing/fire Protection Engineer
About the role
The role offers an experienced Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer the opportunity to lead the design of new construction projects from concept through completion. You will take ownership of building systems design, coordinate closely with clients and internal teams, and guide projects through all phases while working in a collaborative, hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
Lead plumbing and fire protection design for new construction projects from initial kickoff through project completion.
Coordinate and run project kickoff meetings, defining overall building systems and design approach.
Request, review, and manage all required project documentation to support design and coordination activities.
Develop designs through all project phases, including Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), Construction Documents (CDs), and Construction Administration (CA).
Prepare and review detailed construction documents, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and constructability.
Perform Construction Administration tasks, including conducting site visits and addressing field conditions and contractor questions.
Collaborate with a larger production team while taking ownership of assigned portions of the work.
Work independently with minimal oversight, managing design tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
Balance higher-level design responsibilities with junior- to mid-level production work in Revit and other design tools.
Coordinate plumbing and fire protection systems with other disciplines within an MEP and architectural context.
Communicate effectively with clients, design partners, and internal team members to align expectations and resolve issues.
Requirements
At least 5 years of professional experience as a Plumbing and/or Fire Protection Engineer.
Demonstrated experience in plumbing and fire protection design for new construction projects.
Proficiency in Revit for design and production of plumbing and fire protection systems.
Ability to design new buildings from start to finish, including all major project phases.
Proven ability to lead projects independently from kickoff through completion.
Experience working through Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), Construction Documents (CDs), and Construction Administration (CA).
Experience conducting site visits as part of Construction Administration responsibilities.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a larger production team while owning a defined portion of the work.
Capability to work independently with minimal oversight and manage responsibilities proactively.
Experience balancing design responsibilities with junior- to mid-level production work.
Hands-on experience with new construction projects, particularly in building systems design.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients and team members.
Experience in multifamily and mixed-use projects.
Experience with affordable housing projects.
Experience with retail project types.
Familiarity with MEP and mechanical engineering design environments.
Qualifications
Experience using AutoCAD for design and documentation.
Background in working with a variety of architectural and design firms on complex projects.
Exposure to a wide range of project types in major metropolitan and tri-state areas.
Interest in mentoring and being mentored within a collaborative engineering team.
Commitment to delivering high levels of customer service to clients and project partners.

Pay
$110,000.00 - $140,000.00/yr
Schedule
The role operates in a hybrid work environment with a blend of in-office and remote work. The standard schedule includes two days per week in the office and three days working from home, with core office hours typically from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will be part of an engineering team of approximately eight people within a larger office of more than forty professionals, providing opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing. The work focuses heavily on projects in the five boroughs and the broader tri-state area, offering exposure to multiple project types and clients. The environment emphasizes responsiveness, mentorship, and strong client service, with modern office tools and design technologies such as Revit and AutoCAD supporting daily work.
