About the role

The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Aviation Administration (MDOT MAA) is seeking a Plumber (Skilled Trade Specialist II) at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

Responsibilities

  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing and natural gas equipment, piping, valves, and fittings in compliance with the Maryland State and International Plumbing Codes
  • Installation and repairs to showers, lavatories, water closets, faucets, and urinals
  • Fitting copper pipes and fittings using assorted flux, solder, and brazing materials
  • Using different types of gases (i.e., map, and acetylene to fit and cut copper and steel pipes)
  • Installing steel, water, natural gas by using power threaders and groves to cut, thread, and grove the ends of the piping
  • Troubleshooting and repairing sewage ejector pumps, motors, and controls
  • Performing physical exertion either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside MDOT MAA buildings
  • Moving objects weighing over 50 pounds and working on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations
  • Working in cramped quarters in buildings or underground
  • Working rotating shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Working in a 24-hour facility and being available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MDOT MAA

Requirements

  • Three years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing
  • Two years of this experience must involve service and repair of various plumbing hardware in the commercial and residential setting including faucets, water heaters, utility sinks, ejector pumps, grease interceptors, troubleshooting leaks, and using drain clearing machinery used in the plumbing trade

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
  • Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland and be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
