About the role
The Plumbing Department collaborates with the HVAC Department to install, repair, maintain, and alter steam and plumbing systems. This includes tasks such as cleaning sewer drains, operating power tools, welding equipment, and plumbing equipment.
Responsibilities
- Cleans sewer drains
- Operates power tools, welding equipment, sewer cleaning machines, hand tools, and plumbing equipment
- Lays out, cuts, and fits materials for welding
- Packs joints, valves, and pumps
- Cuts and threads pipes
- Caulks and packs lead joints, valves, and pumps
- Replaces seals in water closets
- Cleans filters
- Unplugs sinks, toilets, and drains
- Insulates heat tracing wires and/or piping to ensure equipment is in proper working order
- Inspects buildings to determine repair needs
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts
- Schedules installation, maintenance, and/or repair work
- Estimates length of time, cost of materials, and manpower needed
- Takes appropriate corrective action for building occupant complaints
- Acts as liaison with the Facilities Department and outside contractors
- Supervises and approves outside contractor work
- Reviews and comments on all specifications for capital and operational projects on campus
- Is available for overtime and emergencies as needed
- Alters, repairs, and maintains water systems
- Installs, repairs, troubleshoots piping, glass piping, sprinkler, gas distribution
Qualifications
- Journeyman Plumber's License issued by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbing and Gas may be acceptable pending similar experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in state commercial setting
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master Plumbers License, 5 years or more experience
