Playground Maintenance Technician - Seasonal

About the role

The Montgomery County Department of Parks is seeking Playground Maintenance Technicians to join the Playground Team. This position involves performing skilled playground maintenance and renovation work, general grounds maintenance, and operating various equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs playground maintenance and renovation work to ensure all Montgomery County playgrounds meet safety codes.
• Carries out tasks such as playground surface repairs, border replacement, component replacement, raking, digging, and weed removal.
• Operates equipment including trucks, trailers, Foam Stream Machines, Vermeers with attachments, blowers, chainsaws, and power tools.
• Engages in general grounds maintenance activities such as leaf removal, litter cleanup, hardscape repair, fencing repair, weeding, removing fallen trees, pruning, and snow removal.
• Communicates concerns and needs for repairs or tasks to supervisors effectively and efficiently.
• May occasionally work alone on assignments and may be required to drive Commission vehicles after completing defensive driving training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills or licenses/certificates directly related to the job.
• One year of outdoor landscape industry experience in lawncare, grounds maintenance, carpentry/skilled trades or equivalent is preferred.
• Ability to communicate in another language is a plus.

• Must have an outstanding work ethic with great attention to detail.
• Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions effectively and efficiently.
• Must be able to operate various pieces of equipment safely and efficiently.

Skills

• Skilled in playground maintenance and renovation.
• Proficient in operating various types of equipment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Benefits

This position is seasonal and does not include a benefits package. A complete criminal background investigation will be conducted prior to hire.

Pay

Salaries are based on experience.

Schedule

Work hours are 6:00 am – 2:45 pm Monday - Friday and can include evenings, weekends, and holiday work.
