About the role

Under the general supervision of the Studio Operations Technician and/or Assistant Director of Public Service, performs technical and administrative work to provide and promote City events. This position may assist in generating a wide variety of communication content, including but not limited to videos, photos, and graphic design elements. This position may assist in updating the city’s website, producing the city’s weekly e-newsletter, producing the city’s internal communication efforts, and managing social media. The incumbent interfaces with all levels of city staff and the general public and represents the city in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a camera and performs videography at city, school, and other community events for live stream and/or recording for public viewing.
  • Performs photography at community events, city projects, of city staff, and maintains an updated library of images.
  • Assists in creating graphic design elements for city social media and websites.
  • Directs and produces program content; assists community producers to create graphics, videos, and other programming needs.
  • Assists in production of the City’s e-newsletter and internal employee e-newsletter including producing videos, photographs, and graphic design elements for use within the newsletter.
  • In conjunction with Studio Operations Technician and/or Assistant Director of Public Service, assists in the creation and distribution of any podcast that the city may develop.
  • Develops and maintains relationships that facilitate earned media pertaining to City programs, projects and services.
  • Assists in duplicating and digitizing projects.
  • Performs office duties, greets visitors, answers phones, and provides information.
  • Other duties and projects as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in videography and production, or training or education involving videography, producing and editing program content, graphic design, and/or social media management.

Skills

  • Knowledge and skill in videography and video editing.
  • Knowledge and skill in graphic design production.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of social media platforms.
  • Knowledge and skill with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite including Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Skill in creating, editing and updating websites.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and helpful demeanor.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, in-studio or at off-site locations and in inclement weather.

Schedule

Intermittent/Variable. Some evenings and weekend required.

Special Information

  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, employment reference checks, a physical examination and a pre-employment drug screen.
  • The final applicant will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test will not be appointed to the position.
