About the role

Howmet Aerospace in Branford, CT is seeking a highly motivated and energetic 3rd shift (10:30pm–7:00am) Plating Technician. This position performs a series of operations to complete the electroplating process, covering blades, vanes, clusters, overhaul and repair, and OEM parts. Excellent attention to detail and strong math skills are required. All necessary training for operating plating tanks will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Receive cartons and certify part number and quantity against internal paperwork.
  • Determine job requirements by reviewing internal work instructions and paperwork.
  • Visually inspect each piece to ensure proper pre-plate preparation (e.g., masking) and perform minor trimming as needed.
  • Attach parts to plating rack fixtures, ensuring secure placement before submerging racks into tanks.
  • Check fluid levels in tanks and maintain proper settings on equipment control panels, including calculating platinum needed per part for weight gain.
  • Calculate platinum plating formula based on surface area measurements and number of pieces.
  • Check pH levels prior to plating and add appropriate chemical solutions; monitor pH once per shift if parts are being processed.
  • Maintain good contacts by cleaning bars and making minor adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor amps, temperature levels, and solution movement in tanks to ensure proper results.
  • Move and lift racks in and out of tanks in a timely manner throughout each stage of the process.
  • Visually inspect, weigh, and record plated parts using a digital scale; verify final gain meets specification requirements.
  • Remove masking by placing trays of parts into an electric furnace, if needed.
  • Use proper and safe containerization methods for hazardous waste.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Adhere to all company safety rules and wear protective equipment as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year of experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility required at hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Access to export-controlled items; employment conditioned on lawful ability to obtain such access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of manufacturing experience.
  • One (1) year of work experience in an aerospace environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of high-temperature diffusion coatings (aluminide, chromide, and platinum aluminide) for gas turbine engine components.

Pay

Starting salary: $25.00 per hour. 3rd shift differential: $2.00 per hour. Ability to train on 1st shift for several months. External hires eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
