Platform Engineering Manager
Wells Fargo is seeking a Platform Engineering Manager within the Chief Data Office (CDO), supporting the Enterprise Data Platforms organization.
About the role
This role will lead the end-to-end development of a greenfield platform, from initial concept through production deployment. Responsibilities include building and scaling the team, defining the path to production, and ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery aligned with the product vision.
What You Are Building
A next-generation enterprise platform that accelerates delivery of data and application capabilities through standardized, modular services and automation. It embeds governance early via shift-left practices and enforces consistency through a centralized control plane with integrated metadata and observability.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineers and less experienced managers responsible for building high-quality capabilities with modern technology.
- Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next-generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture (e.g., cloud readiness, application modernization, and data strategy).
- Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning.
- Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and teams to make decisions, remove impediments, and foster a culture of constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement.
- Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design as needed.
- Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within technology functions, as well as identify, manage, and mitigate technology and enterprise risk.
- Collaborate and consult with Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative solutions, generate corporate value, and articulate technical strategy while advocating for agile and DevOps practices.
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering, including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team.
- Hire, mentor, and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- 2+ years of Leadership experience.
Qualifications
- Experience with greenfield platform builds or large-scale platform modernization initiatives.
- Background in data platforms, distributed systems, or enterprise application ecosystems.
- Demonstrated success building platforms or products from concept to production and driving cross-functional alignment across engineering, product, and operations teams.
- Strong experience managing complex delivery programs with tight timelines and dependencies.
- Hands-on understanding of modern platform engineering practices (cloud platforms, CI/CD, DevOps, microservices, data platforms).
- Familiarity with regulatory, compliance, and governance requirements in large enterprises.
- Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
Schedule
- Hybrid work schedule: in office 3 days a week.
- Need to be available for on-call support.
- Flexibility to work ad-hoc shifts when required.
