Plastic Injection Molding Processor
About the role
Set up, start up, and optimize injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment. Develop, adjust, and maintain molding processes to meet quality, cycle time, and scrap targets. Troubleshoot and resolve complex molding defects (e.g., short shots, flash, warpage, splay, burn marks). Analyze recurring process issues and implement corrective actions to improve consistency and efficiency. Modify and adapt processing parameters, tooling, materials, and equipment to resolve production challenges. Perform mold validations, process studies, and parameter optimization (scientific molding principles preferred). Interpret part quality data and make process adjustments based on root cause analysis. Work with engineering and quality teams to support new product launches and process development. Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
Responsibilities
- Train and mentor operators and junior technicians on proper processing techniques and troubleshooting methods.
- Serve as a hands-on technical resource for complex molding or equipment issues.
- Provide guidance on best practices for material handling, drying, and processing conditions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives including cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and uptime improvement.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in injection molding processing.
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastics, material behavior, and processing techniques.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex molding defects and process issues.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with robotics, automation, and auxiliary equipment (dryers, loaders, temperature controllers).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience in multi-cavity, tight-tolerance, or high-volume production environments.
- Works under minimal supervision; receives general direction on new assignments.
- Exercises considerable judgment in process adjustments and issue resolution.
- Handles varied and complex tasks across multiple machines, molds, and materials.
- Escalates only highly complex or non-routine issues to engineering or management.
- Plays a key role in maintaining production stability and driving operational excellence.
- High school diploma / GED. Vocational training or an AA degree is preferred.
