About the Role
The Plant Utility Engineer 1 operates and maintains mechanical and electrical equipment on an assigned shift in a heating and/or air-conditioning plant, or in a single or multi-building facility. Responsibilities include providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air-conditioning, and electrical distribution.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Transfer Opportunity: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (G-14) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-7 years of experience in industrial utilities in a Power Plant setting.
- Experience with utility systems, including commercial boilers (gas and oil), cooling towers, compressed air systems, commercial generators, electrical switchgear, and building management systems.
- Proficient knowledge and experience using spreadsheets for tracking utility consumption accounts and systems.
Degrees awarded from educational institutions outside of the United States or its territories must be independently verified for equivalency. Additional information here.

Pay
The posted salary range is $60,506 - $72,630, which includes a $4,000 Downstate Adjustment. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the salary range). Promotion salaries are calculated in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules, and negotiated union contracts.
