Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate day-to-day activities of shop employees including fabricators, welders, machinists, assemblers, and material handlers.
- Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Monitor workflow, production schedules, labor utilization, and job progress to ensure customer deadlines are achieved.
- Review production drawings, work orders, and specifications to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Cookordinate priorities and resources with office personnel including planning, engineering, quality, and management teams.
- Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for fabrication and production challenges.
- Train, coach, and develop employees on safety, quality, productivity, and workmanship standards.
- Conduct employee performance discussions, provide feedback, and assist with corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure quality standards are met through inspections, process verification, and adherence to customer specifications.
- Monitor equipment condition and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, organization, and waste reduction.
- Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and attendance documentation.
- Support a positive and respectful work environment built on teamwork, trust, accountability, and communication.
- Aid in onboarding and training of new employees.
- Participate in scheduling overtime and manpower allocation based on production demands.
- Responsible for daily management of raw materials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education preferred.
- 3–5+ years of experience in a fabrication, welding, machining, or custom manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of custom fabrication processes, blueprint reading, welding, machining, finishing, and assembly operations.
- Knowledge of shop safety practices and OSHA standards. OSHA 10 certificate preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced job shop environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with basic computer systems, production tracking, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production documentation.
- ERP Software experience required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent exposure to manufacturing environments including noise, heat, welding flash, dust, and moving equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and welding-related protective equipment as required.
