Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis in area(s) of responsibility
  • Performs field inspections, field measurements and equipment walk downs
  • Ensures company resources are used in a cost-effective manner
  • Oversees, supports, monitors, and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Participates and/or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating units (i.e. Root Cause Analysis)
  • Initiates/participates in continuous improvement planning and implementation in assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • Prepares written reports in assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • Performs technical duties in area(s) of specialization
  • Covers activities with Vendors/Contractors, outside support groups, and other plant employees
  • Provides technical support to plant operations and maintenance activities
  • Provides training to plant operations and maintenance employees (Safety, Environmental, Conduct of Operations, etc.)
  • Provides training to help develop employees at the site in both Operations and Maintenance
  • Be proactive with problem recognition, using independent judgment to provide input on ways to solve them
  • Performs testing and analysis using various predictive maintenance technologies, including, but not limited to, vibration monitoring, oil analysis, infrared thermography, motor current analysis, ultrasonic monitoring, and equipment balancing and laser alignment
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date predictive maintenance databases
  • Performs maintenance analysis studies, develop and analyze databases, and prepare reports with recommendations using Work Management System as well as other available tools
  • Evaluates preventative and predictive maintenance activities to identify and implement improved processes
  • Provides technical input on due diligence efforts and new projects they arise
  • Monitor and report project progress and health on regularly established intervals to NRG management
  • Fulfills all internal and external project and program tracking and reporting requirements. This includes Safety, Environmental, and NRG Programs (OPO-026: Natural Gas Inspection, OPO-217: Structural Inspections…, etc.)
  • Reporting
  • Put form to and managing implementation of Special Projects including but not limited to developing scope, cost and schedule
  • Participates in the applicable internal and external user groups and implement industry best practices to the fleet as required

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years technical training at an accredited university or technical institute and a minimum of 6 years experience in area(s) of specialization or High School diploma and 8 years experience in a power plant focused on operations, maintenance, or technical field
  • Knowledge of Power Plant systems
  • Ability to work effectively in in-plant environments and field site locations

Qualifications

  • Co-generation plant experience preferred
  • Combined Cycle GE 7EA operation and maintenance experience preferred

Skills

  • Experience with breakers, exciters, generators, transformers, pumps, fans, motors, switchgear, and miscellaneous electrical equipment
  • Ability to provide technical support for electrical testing, inspection, repair and development / implementation of technical solutions of in-service power generation components
  • Basic knowledge of power plant systems and operation consistent with level of responsibility
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and equipment in area(s) of specialization
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable industry standards and codes
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of and ability to preform functions in SAP that support job duties and the plant
  • Basic math and algebra to perform calculations
  • Effective communication technical concepts (verbal and written)
  • Establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
  • Support and maintain schedule on several concurrent assignments
  • Perform standard calculations in area(s) of specialization
  • Read, create and follow written policies and procedures
  • Read, write and understand English
  • Transport and put in place test equipment
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle with a Valid Drivers License
  • Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost-effective manner
  • Obtains and applies knowledge of competitive business practices in daily work activities and decision making
  • Supports the use of AI tools to help you prepare for your interview (e.g., practicing responses, researching the role, or refining your resume)
  • Anticipates and accepts changes in the organization and adapts to meet the new requirements
  • Committed to making the workplace safe and environmentally sound
  • Willing to accept accountability for own decisions, performance, and behavior
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert for the plant on NRG Procedures (i.e. LOTO, Walking & Working Surfaces, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect and/or collect data on plant equipment
  • May require lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Required use of PPE as specified
