About the role
The Plant Specialist position is aimed at individuals with extensive experience and advanced subject matter knowledge in a power plant. This role requires a combination of experience and formal education, with a focus on providing technical support and ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
- Performs analysis in area(s) of responsibility
- Performs field inspections, field measurements and equipment walk downs
- Ensures company resources are used in a cost-effective manner
- Oversees, supports, monitors, and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
- Participates and/or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating units (e.g., Root Cause Analysis)
- Initiates/participates in continuous improvement planning and implementation in assigned area(s) of responsibility
- Prepares written reports in assigned area(s) of responsibility
- Provides technical support to plant operations and maintenance activities
- Provides training to plant operations and maintenance employees (Safety, Environmental, Conduct of Operations, etc.)
- Provides training to help develop employees at the site in both Operations and Maintenance
- Performs technical duties in area(s) of specialization
- Coordinates activities with Vendors/Contractors, outside support groups, and other plant employees
- Provides technical support to plant operations and maintenance activities
- Performs maintenance analysis studies, develop and analyze databases, and prepare reports with recommendations using Work Management System as well as other available tools
- Evaluates preventative and predictive maintenance activities to identify and implement improved processes
- Monitors and reports project progress and health on regularly established intervals to NRG management
- Fulfills all internal and external project and program tracking and reporting requirements
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years technical training at an accredited university or technical institute and a minimum of 6 years experience in area(s) of specialization or High School diploma and 8 years experience in a power plant focused on operations, maintenance, or technical field
- Knowledge of Power Plant systems
- Ability to work effectively in in-plant environments and field site locations
Qualifications
- Co-generation plant experience preferred
- Combined Cycle GE 7EA operation and maintenance experience preferred
Additional Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Experience with breakers, exciters, generators, transformers, pumps, fans, motors, switchgear, and miscellaneous electrical equipment
- Ability to provide technical support for electrical testing, inspection, repair and development / implementation of technical solutions of in-service power generation components
- Basic knowledge of power plant systems and operation consistent with level of responsibility
- Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and equipment in area(s) of specialization
- Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable industry standards and codes
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of and ability to preform functions in SAP that support job duties and the plant
- Ability to use basic math and algebra to perform calculations
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts (verbal and written)
- Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals
- Ability to perform as a team member or leader in a cross-functional team environment and achieve consensus decisions
- Ability to support and maintain schedule on several concurrent assignments
- Ability to perform standard calculations in area(s) of specialization
- Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Required use of PPE as specified
