Plant Specialist
About the role
Minnkota Power is seeking qualified candidates for a Plant Specialist at the Milton R. Young Station, a two-unit coal-fired power plant located near Center, ND. This role involves coordinating the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for plant process equipment, installing new and replacement equipment, and working with consultants and contractors to accomplish engineering objectives.
The Milton R. Young Station provides a stable energy source for cooperative member-owners and is located 35 miles from Bismarck, North Dakota, a growing city with many recreational opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot existing systems with operations and maintenance to resolve safety or production problems with engineered solutions.
- Identify technical and operational training needs and initiate action on capital and O & M projects.
- Monitor work activity to ensure it is done safely and in compliance with current regulations.
- Assist in record keeping of system work order files, standard drawing, and data files.
- Analyze plant data and provide recommendations.
- Monitor and recommend new technology to improve efficiency, reliability, availability, and longevity of the power plant.
- Provide engineering support to other departments as required.
Requirements
- Previous industrial experience with rotating equipment, particularly vibration monitoring, condition monitoring, lubrication systems, and lube oil analysis is required.
- An Associate of Science in an applicable field is preferred, though other education, training, and practical experience will be considered.

Pay
The salary ranges for this role are as follows:
- Plant Specialist I: begins at $74,130 per year
- Plant Specialist II: begins at $95,226 per year
- Plant Specialist III: begins at $106,594 per year
- Plant Specialist IV: begins at $119,579 per year
- Senior Plant Specialist: begins at $133,647 per year
Appropriate pay will be determined based on the candidate's skills, education, and previous relevant experience.
