Plant Operations Director
About the role
The Plant Operations Director has overall departmental leadership responsibilities for building maintenance, Biomed, and Hazardous Waste for all PMC locations and Helen Porter. This role involves planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the Engineering/Maintenance Department functions to maintain physical structures, Life Safety Codes, and compliance with regulatory standards, including CMS, OSHA, and standards for HVAC, medical equipment, electrical systems, utility systems, and grounds. The director ensures the hospital operates in a safe working condition.
This position provides direction, coaching, and performance management for the Plant Operations manager and technicians, oversees all work performed by the department, and coordinates with other leaders across the organization and UVM Health Network to address facility-related projects, safety concerns, and challenges. The Plant Operations Director will also serve as a member of the University of Vermont Health Network Facilities Leadership Council.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee building maintenance, Biomed, and Hazardous Waste operations for all PMC locations and Helen Porter.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards, including CMS, OSHA, and Life Safety Codes.
- Direct and supervise the Engineering/Maintenance Department to ensure the physical structures, HVAC, medical equipment, electrical systems, utility systems, and grounds are in safe and operative condition.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for the Plant Operations manager and technicians.
- Coordinate with organizational leaders and UVM Health Network on facility-related projects, safety concerns, and challenges.
- Participate in the University of Vermont Health Network Facilities Leadership Council.
Requirements
- 5 years of Facilities Management experience.
- Healthcare facility experience preferred but not required.
- Basic experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, hazardous material, and safety management.
- Professional licensure required.
- Thorough understanding of healthcare facility regulations preferred.
Qualifications
- College education in maintenance or Technical Education in a building trade with State licensure is preferred.
- Excellent communication and team-building skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and comfort with business strategy implementation, cost controls, productivity enhancement, and operating in a politically sensitive environment.
