About the role
Highest level of mechanical expertise required for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of power generation equipment including dual fuel reciprocating engines, generators, compressors, pumps, valves, piping, and other related equipment. Leadership role overseeing major maintenance projects.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose operational and mechanical problems of generation equipment and initiate corrective actions.
- Perform routine inspections of generation equipment and determine repair and replacement requirements.
- Perform maintenance and repair activities on large diesel engines such as generators, split case horizontal and vertical pumps, and related equipment.
- Assume duties of lead man on major overhauls of equipment.
- Train and instruct lower-level employees as assigned.
- Take close tolerance measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
- Fabricate or repair parts and equipment to close tolerances using various machine tools.
- Complete repairs to structures, equipment, and piping using welding and cutting equipment.
- Ensure the performance of routine maintenance tasks to assigned equipment.
- Complete daily reports of work performed, problems encountered, and parts and supplies used.
- Safely operate repair tools and equipment, including grinders, drill press, forklift, taps and dies, etc.
- Maintain and ensure safety of assigned equipment and tools.
- Be available to work in emergencies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years of specific experience in large diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Experience with Fairbanks Morse OP, Pielstick, or Enterprise (Cooper Bessemer) engines preferred.
- Proficiency in using various machine tools and welding equipment.
- Completion of technical courses on the repair and maintenance of diesel engines and related generation plant equipment.
- Able to diagnose problems with mechanical equipment and develop solutions for correction and repair.
- Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic, prepare reports, and read blueprints.
- Knowledge of CMMS and use of computers.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Pass background screening process.
Qualifications
- Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in confined spaces.
- Environmental conditions include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and extreme temperatures.
