Plant Manager

About the Role

As the Plant Manager, you will serve as the senior leader at the facility, overseeing all phases of plant operations including production, shipping, and receiving. You will establish the plant culture, motivate employees, and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy. This role involves financial oversight, staffing, safety, and continuous improvement to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate all plant activities, reviewing performance against operating plans and making adjustments as needed.
• Provide hands-on leadership to staff to achieve plant and company strategic and operational goals, including training and development.
• Oversee financial aspects of plant operations, including profitability, efficiency, cost reduction, and budget preparation.
• Analyze staffing needs to ensure proper staffing levels and qualifications to meet business goals.
• Plan and execute projects and strategies, coordinating with other departments to resolve issues.
• Stay abreast of operational, engineering, and technical developments, recommending best practices and program changes.
• Create a performance-based culture focused on results, trust, and continuous improvement.
• Work with the corporate office on staffing plans, capital investment, and improvement projects.
• Collaborate with quality personnel to review product consistency and identify areas for improvement.
• Review production schedules to ensure inventory levels are met while operating at peak efficiency.
• Work closely with the environmental health and safety manager to maintain a safe workplace and superior safety program.
• Communicate with research and development and product management to develop new product strategies.
• Coordinate with purchasing to improve supplier relationships and review outsourced services.
• Develop operational programs, policies, and controls to improve production flow, equipment performance, and cost savings.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to production scheduling for better efficiencies.
• Establish performance indicators and drive sites to meet or exceed targets.
• Optimize efficiencies, improve productivity, and hire, coach, and motivate staff to achieve high performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Operations, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum of five years of steel manufacturing (welding) and operations leadership experience, with full site responsibility including production, shipping, inventory, and maintenance.

Skills & Abilities

• Experience with best practices, continuous improvement, and lean tools (e.g., Six Sigma, 5-S, lean manufacturing, transactional lean).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis and trend reporting.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
• Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills; ability to work collaboratively and lead decision-making processes.
• Understanding of manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering principles.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and adaptability skills.
• Ability to build relationships, engender trust, and motivate employees across the organization.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively from front-line employees to senior executives.
