About the role
Manages, plans, and coordinates—through a staff of skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled trade employees—activities concerned with the operation, repair, and maintenance of facility, equipment, buildings, and grounds to minimize interruption and improve efficiency. Oversees development of the facility, formulation of operating rules, regulations, and procedures, and helps establish emergency-response protocols. Inspects plant facilities or supervises building-service personnel, assigns maintenance, repair, or renovation tasks, and may obtain outside-contractor bids. Administers the building-department budget, compiles labor and material-cost records, and issues cost reports to management. Reviews prior-year expenditures and proposed facility improvements to prepare upcoming fiscal-year budget estimates. Purchases building and maintenance supplies, machinery, equipment, and furniture. May direct contracted projects to ensure adherence to specifications and may be responsible for procurement of utilities or operation of utility systems.
Responsibilities
- Administer Pratt Industries USA Quality Program; participate in employee quality meetings and drive continual improvement of quality standards.
- Direct the processing of all incoming materials at the most economical cost while meeting prescribed quality, accuracy, and performance standards.
- Report obsolescence of equipment and facilities; submit capital-outlay recommendations with cost/return data.
- Review and report on facility and equipment condition relative to current governmental requirements.
- Ensure plant property is kept in good repair and appearance as economically as possible; submit recommendations for operational improvements.
- Direct the proper utilization of all plant tools, equipment, and facilities.
- Submit periodic reports to the Director of Operations on current status, recommending corrective actions for unsatisfactory results.
- Chair safety committee meetings; enforce OSHA and Pratt Industries USA safety standards; conduct required safety meetings and enforce housekeeping standards.
- File monthly plant financial reports; ensure profitable plant operation by controlling expenses and maximizing productivity.
- Provide necessary statistics and anticipated operating basis for determining operating-expense budgets.
- Maintain positive employee relations; administer compensation and employee programs.
- Oversee selection, training, and professional development of plant manufacturing management.
- Administer the Incentive and Points System in conformance with plant policies and procedures.
- Participate in grievances and proceedings; complete performance evaluations for machine operators.
- Track employee activities (absences, overtime, etc.).
- Conduct plant tours and speak to groups about Pratt Industries USA and the recycling industry.
- Maintain contact with vendors, customers, and contracting entities (e.g., counties, municipalities).
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or high-school diploma with equivalent experience.
- Safety-process experience, including protocols and procedures.
- Supervision of all levels of plant employees.
- Coaching, managing processes, ADP & SAP experience, process improvement, and production planning.
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of labor relations, manufacturing/operations methods, production planning, and quality programs.
- Professional attitude and conduct; strong multi-tasking, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- High degree of safety awareness and discipline.
- Professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home, nights, and weekends as required.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors with other duties as needed.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as mandated by Pratt Safety and OSHA.
- At least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
- Flexibility to meet business needs and exceed customer expectations.
- Successful completion of a drug screen and background check prior to hire.
- Ability to work a full shift, arrive on time, work overtime as needed, and meet job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
