About the role
The Plant Manager manages and directs the Production, Maintenance, and Production Administration functions of the plant. They ensure operations comply with GMP guidelines, producing products that meet or exceed customer and company quality expectations in a safe environment while maintaining or improving costs, efficiencies, and volume targets. The role involves coordinating manufacturing departments to align with company objectives, quality systems, and customer satisfaction. The Plant Manager also assists in establishing quality specifications, promotes plant safety, and ensures 100% service to sales.
Responsibilities
- Direct coordination of all manufacturing departments to ensure compliance with company objectives, quality systems, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish, maintain, and improve productivity standards.
- Prepare the annual manufacturing budget and analyze costs of plant improvements.
- Actively participate in preparing the plant’s strategic operating plan.
- Serve as a communication conduit between upper management and plant personnel.
- Execute projects as directed by the Vice-President of Manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, OSHA, EPA, USDA).
- Promote plant safety through employee education, safety committees, and incentive programs.
- Verify GMPs and safety standards, ensuring compliance with HACCP and AIB gold standards.
- Provide suggestions to improve processes, procedures, and departments in support of company goals.
- Manage a 3-shift operation, requiring flexible working hours.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 8 years of increasing responsibility in a high-speed food/beverage manufacturing or packaging environment with a high number of SKUs.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a plant management role or equivalent management position.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
Skills
- Extensive experience in manufacturing management within consumer food production, with a proven track record of improving production efficiency and product quality.
- Experience operating within regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, OSHA, EPA, USDA).
- Functional oversight experience in manufacturing, engineering/maintenance, supply chain, and quality.
- Experience with manufacturing safety concepts, applications, and committees.
- Commitment to LEAN Manufacturing, with success in applying lean principles to process improvement and cost reduction.
- Strong team management, leadership, and development skills, including managing people in a matrix organization.
- Maturity, self-confidence, and strong communication skills.
- Multicultural approach to operating in a diverse business environment.
- Comfortable communicating and operating in an internationally matrixed environment.
- Experience in financial management, including budgeting and ROI analysis.
- SAP knowledge preferred.
- Fluent in both Spanish and English (verbal and written).
- Able to walk long distances and stand for extended periods.
- Able to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold, and confined spaces.
Pay
Salary Range: $171,000 - $175,000 plus a 25% discretionary bonus.
