Plant Manager
About the Role
As a Plant Manager, you will be responsible for managing all plant operations at our Sacramento, CA facility. This position has overall responsibility for production, driving JELD-WEN’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities in direct support of JELD-WEN’s Mission Statement. You will report directly to the Senior Operations Director.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all plant operations in accordance with JELD-WEN’s Mission Statement and KPIs.
- Coordinate plant activities with Production and Departmental Managers to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner using LEAN manufacturing processes.
- Develop, control, plan, and implement the plant budget to maximize profits through SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and CI initiatives.
- Implement cost-effective systems for operating expenditures, manpower, wages, salaries, and capital asset/improvement projects.
- Monitor overall plant performance for safety, production, and quality standards, working closely with CI Managers and Safety Teams.
- Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.
- Maintain plant facilities and equipment; replace or request adjustments as needed, working with VPO, R&D, and Engineering to develop specifications.
- Collaborate with R&D and administrative support departments to test and implement new materials and product lines.
- Coordinate plant and production activities through strategic planning with Group Plant Managers and VPO to align with JELD-WEN’s Mission Statement and KPIs.
- Oversee safety and preventative maintenance programs, prioritizing safety procedures and plant cleanliness.
- Ensure production processes are fluid, efficient, and effective through shop floor organization and collaboration with Process Engineering personnel.
- Provide leadership and training to accomplish corporate goals, objectives, and KPIs.
- Direct, develop, and lead managerial personnel; hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Consult with Human Resources, Legal, and Corporate offices as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or an Associate’s Degree with at least ten (10) years of managerial experience at JELD-WEN (may substitute for advanced degrees at corporate discretion).
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the sawmill and millwork industry.
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in production and manufacturing process improvement techniques, including SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
- LEAN manufacturing and/or production process experience is required.
- Advanced knowledge of raw materials, preferably for sawmill applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing-related schematics.
- Fundamental knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of business, finance, quality control systems, and standards.
- Advanced leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for corporate, managerial, and plant personnel.
- Advanced understanding of JELD-WEN’s KPIs, corporate goals, and profit margins.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting, purchasing, and related disciplines.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other applicable software applications.
- Strong knowledge of plant/OSHA health and safety standards and compliance.
- Travel: up to 15%.

Pay
Expected pay for this role is between $136,400 and $227,400 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
