About the role

This position involves performing skilled mechanical and low-voltage electrical work at a wastewater treatment plant and pumping station. The primary responsibilities include maintaining, repairing, and overhauling various equipment, installing and maintaining electrical systems, troubleshooting, and operating plant processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, and overhauls pumps, valves, air compressors, gear reducers, conveyors, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
• Performs precision alignments and troubleshooting to ensure efficient and reliable operation of plant equipment.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems and related components.
• Maintains and repairs low-voltage electrical systems and components.
• Troubleshoots electrical problems and performs diagnostic testing.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Designs, fabricates, modifies, and repairs machinery and equipment components using welding and machining techniques.
• Operates wastewater treatment plant and pumping station equipment as required.
• Serves as a Wastewater Treatment Plant and Remote Facilities Operator during emergency or operational needs.
• Provides training, guidance, and work inspections for employees involved in the operation and maintenance of department equipment.
• Adheres to all utility security policies and procedures.
• Immediately reports any actual or potential physical or cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, or incidents.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Vocational/Technical school or apprenticeship in industrial maintenance technology, water/wastewater treatment technology, or related field preferred.
• One to three years' work experience in industrial maintenance, welding-fabrication, machinist, or related field required.
• Valid State of Michigan driver's license, maintained in good standing.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical components used in process control applications.
• Ability to use various types of cutting and welding equipment.
• Ability to perform machinist's tasks on lathes, vertical mills, drill presses, and other machinist equipment.
• Ability to oversee and instruct other employees in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment.
• Knowledge of installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of welding techniques and electrical components and wiring.
• Skills in troubleshooting mechanical equipment and exercising sound judgment.

Qualifications

• Physical demands include frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, occasional lifting, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wastewater bacteria, confined spaces, high places, slippery or uneven surfaces, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, blood borne pathogens, and moving industrial equipment.
• Must adhere to all utility security policies and procedures.
• Must be able to communicate clearly, utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow established safety protocols.
