PLANT ENGINEER - Indiana

About the Role

The Plant Engineer develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. This role recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, and controls, and coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products.

Responsibilities

• Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management, and employee training.
• Improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency.
• Prepares and presents plans for process improvements and coordinates deployment, including training of team members.
• Assists plant management in improving systems for production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and training.
• Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment.
• Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
• Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.
• Designs, develops, tests, and sources tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods, including cost justification.
• Performs product and process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
• Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.
• Performs all other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a manufacturing process support role.
• Automation integration and project management experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in a high employee involvement environment.
• Proficient mathematical and computer skills.
• Ability to systematically work through problems and analysis, meeting deadlines individually or as part of a team.
• Computer-assisted design (CAD) proficiency; Visual Basic, VBA for MS Excel, and ERP experience desired but not required.
• Ability to travel as required (less than 10% of the time).
• Skilled in the practical application of engineering principles to analyze and develop solutions for process problems.
• Self-starter capable of organizing work without direct supervision.
• Experience in process troubleshooting, root cause analysis, process optimization, statistical process control, and implementing permanent corrective actions.
• Experience with handling resins such as PS, PP, PE, LLDPE, EVOH, and SBCs is a plus.
• Experience with extruding and/or thermoforming PS foam is desired.
• Prior experience and/or training in Lean Manufacturing is required.
• Previous experience in an SQF-certified facility is a plus.

Schedule

Monday – Friday or as needed.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
