About the role

The Novelis Lincolnshire team is seeking a Plant CI Leader. This position is responsible for coordinating the implementation and sustainability of the Novelis Operating System (NOS), the foundation for improvement. The role supports the plant to ensure standard methodologies are followed and business objectives are achieved, coordinates integration of metrics for effective performance measurement, and leads the annual improvement planning cycle (IPC) to create a single agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Develop and implement the NOS roadmap for the plant.
  • Coordinate NOS Masterplan and deployment activities in line with the Plant Steer Committee.
  • Support the Steering Committee and Centers of Excellence leaders.
  • Construct and implement system audits.
  • Coordinate improvement methodology training.
  • Coordinate the loss intelligence system for the site.
  • Lead the education of managers and leaders on their roles in NOS and continuous improvement.
  • Support business objectives and the Improvement Planning Cycle (IPC), resulting in a single agenda to focus improvement efforts for the year.
  • Help implement/lead the vision to achieve plant goals.
  • Identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate and/or lead improvement activities.
  • Lead the plant in single operating agenda development and execution.
  • Work with Plant leadership to define and drive critical, organizational, and operational improvement recommendations, as well as new improvement projects.
  • Ensure consistent KPIs to track operational performance.
  • Lead the Performance Improvement activity for the plant focused on achieving business objectives.
  • Assist with target setting and cascade to the asset level.
  • Lead the development/improvement of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Monitor and report on overall progress, identifying roadblocks and creating actions to address deficiencies.
  • Teach, mentor, and coach others.
  • Develop and deliver professional training applications to enable employees at all levels to engage and contribute to the continuous improvement process.
  • Use data to identify and address organizational performance gaps.
  • Ensure lean manufacturing cultural process change for Operations, focused on developing the best productivity process with low cost and according to plan.
  • Coach management teams to develop a continuous improvement culture, where NOS/CI is interwoven into the way we do business.
  • Play a key role in local change management and the cultural transformation of the site.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical, or business field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing management.
  • 5–7 years of experience leading improvement efforts and teams (Lean, DMAIC, WCM).
  • Project management experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified.
  • Able to engage at all levels in the organization and influence others.
  • Analytical and strategic, data and results driven.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects while driving change with measurable results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of VSM, Lean methodologies, Kaizen, DMAIC.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Fluent in English.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, MBA in Management systems, or correlated subjects.
  • Experience in a similar business, preferably in the metal industry.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certified.
  • Experience implementing operational management systems at other manufacturing companies.

About the location

The finishing mill in Lincolnshire, Illinois, is located 26 miles from Chicago and was established in 1966. The facility cold rolls aluminum to desired gauges, anneals to temper levels, and slits the rolled sheet to size. Employing around 100 people, the plant produces mill finish coils for the building construction and transportation industries, where its products are used for gutters, siding, soffits, and fascia. Lincolnshire is committed to the local community through ongoing volunteer initiatives with various local organizations.
